HOW TO PREPARE FOR FACELIFT SURGERY

In preparing for a facelift and necklift in the Phoenix-Metro area, your doctor will strictly follow the protocols of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and suggest that you:

Stop smoking weeks before and after surgery
Get a complete blood count (CBC) and kidney, liver, and blood sugar tests to ensure you are healthy to undergo surgery
Pause your intake of any blood-thinning supplements or medications
Share your complete medical history and any prescriptions you are currently taking

WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE RECOVERING FROM A FACELIFT AND NECKLIFT

You will be sent to a recovery center after your facelift and necklift for the first day after surgery. This is a safety precaution in the rare event that a complication arises following surgery. And, realistically, having someone reliable to help you makes the first few days of recovery much easier. They can make sure you are taking your medications as prescribed and eating nutritious meals to boost the healing process.

Expect many sensations as your face and/or neck heal, with tightness being the most notable. Bruising, swelling, tenderness, and numbness are also generally present. These temporary side effects will begin to fade within days after your surgery, with full resolution in about 2 to 4 weeks. Patients usually take up to 14 days off from work and cease strenuous activities for 3 to 4 weeks.

HOW LONG WILL I LOOK SWOLLEN?

Swelling often peaks by the second week of the recovery process, but it can take weeks to months to fully resolve. Furthermore, expect numbness to persist for up to 6 months, with the feeling returning to your face over time.

HOW LONG BEFORE AN IMPORTANT SOCIAL EVENT SHOULD I GET A FACELIFT?

How soon you feel comfortable going to a reunion or wedding is highly personal. That said, it’s crucial to know that, for many patients, the “social recovery” time following facelift surgery can take between 6 weeks to 2 months.

WILL I LOOK DIFFERENT?

CAN I GET A FACELIFT EVEN IF I’VE HAD ONE BEFORE?
