Even with impeccable skincare habits and amazing genes, your skin can’t escape time and the effects of the environment. With each year, youthful skin loses a little firmness, moisture and elasticity. You may gradually notice these cumulative effects in the form of dark spots, fine lines, and skin texture.
Microneedling treatments are sought-after procedures to rejuvenate your face and body and minimize the signs of aging. Microneedling by itself stimulates new collagen production, while naturally increasing your skin’s elasticity. But microneedling alone might not give you the most favorable results. For maximum facial rejuvenation, our team at Guerra Plastic Surgery Center recommends combining microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment, sometimes known as a “vampire facial,” to “super-charge” your body’s own natural-healing and regenerative capabilities.
Microneedling with PRP, also sometimes called the “vampire facial,” joins two powerful catalysts for collagen regeneration and elastin renewal into a single, minimally invasive treatment. Combining the microneedling procedure with PRP harnesses your own body’s natural repair mechanisms. This promotes optimal facial rejuvenation and skin revitalization.
Your visit starts by drawing a small sample of blood from your arm. The sample is then placed and spun in a high-speed centrifuge to separate and isolate the concentrated blood platelets. Your own blood platelets contain growth factors that ignite the healing process and regenerate new tissues.
While your sample is spinning in the centrifuge, our experienced esthetician will microneedle your skin. Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling uses an innovative device with an automated tip that contains ultra-fine needles. Our esthetician gently and systematically presses this microneedling pen across the surface of your skin, creating superficial microwounds. This triggers your internal healing mechanisms, causing your body to increase its production of collagen and elastin from your deepest dermal layer all the way through to the surface of your skin.
Finally, after the microneedling step of your facial, we carefully apply your very own PRP to the fresh micro wounds in your skin. The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) penetrates your skin through these microchannels. Your PRP’s powerful growth factors take collagen growth and elastin renewal to the next level, kickstarting and enhancing the process of regenerating fresh, healthy, new dermal tissues and creating a more youthful appearance.
Within about 24-72 hours, most mild redness, swelling and inflammation subsides with minimal downtime. You can expect to see a healthy glow, improved skin tone, refined texture, and even a noticeable degree of restored facial volume. You will continue to see improvements in the weeks and months following your procedure, as the skin renewal process unfolds, and your body continues generating new collagen and elastin.
For optimal results, we recommend multiple treatments, typically about three to six sessions. Wear sunscreen and try to avoid unprotected sun exposure. Watch out for alcohol-based products and exfoliants as your skin heals after treatment, and wait to re-start rigorous physical activities until after you are fully healed.
Microneedling with PRP can erase acne scars, reduce age spots and wrinkles, and help to correct melasma and hyperpigmentation problems. For most patients, microneedling with PRP is the most effective way to fight the aging process. Appointments typically take 2 hours or less.
