Because only 1 to 5 percent of all women have reported excessive growth of mammary tissue in medical literature, most people do not realize the unique difficulties women with extremely large breasts face daily.
Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammoplasty, is a procedure designed to address a condition known as gigantomastia or macromastia (breast hypertrophy) – although women who feel uncomfortable with their breast size are also potential candidates. Aside from improving physical appearance, this procedure aims to help women experience a renewed sense of self-worth, alleviate pain, and more.

Our highly trained and experienced plastic surgeons may recommend the following breast reduction techniques to achieve your desired shape and size:
Discovered in 1954, Wise Pattern Breast Reduction is one of the oldest techniques for reducing breast size. This surgical option involves making an incision around your areola, followed by additional cuts running vertically down to the center of your breasts and then horizontally along the bottom seam near your abdomen. Women with overdeveloped or pendulous breasts are the ideal candidates for this method. Patients often report after surgery that a breast reduction enhances posture and reduces tension in the neck and shoulders.
About 50 to 60 percent of men worldwide have enlarged breasts (gynecomastia). Many of them suffer silently. Fortunately, our surgeons specialize in reducing enlarged male breasts, giving men the confidence to live their best lives.

Our breast reduction procedures involve the following:
The first step in any breast reduction procedure is to administer general anesthesia to ensure a painless and comfortable surgical experience.
Once the anesthesia takes effect, your plastic surgeon will proceed with incision placement. The type of incision used will depend on your agreed-upon breast reduction method, the amount of tissue requiring removal, and your unique anatomy.
Once your surgeon gains surgical access, he will remove the excess breast tissue, fat, and skin before reshaping any remaining tissue to create an attractive breast shape.
Sutures will close your incisions following successful reduction and reshaping.

My experience from the moment I called for a consultation through post-op was amazing. The entire team makes you feel extremely comfortable about the decision you made. I felt safe and in good hands.
I am about one year post-op from a breast reduction. The very happy that I chose Dr. Guerra. I let him choose the size because I’m sure I would have gone too small. They’re perfect. I wish the surgery center had been closer to his office, but the staff there were amazing to me, so I don’t blame him. His office is beautiful and filled with friendly faces. I would choose him again if I were in the same situation again. I’d recommend him any day ro a friend or a stranger.
Swelling during the initial healing phase is normal. Our surgeons may recommend wearing an elastic bandage or post-op compression bra to keep the area comfortable, provide support, and minimize inflammation. Dr. Guerra and Dr. Ogley will also prescribe pain medications to help you manage any post-surgery discomfort. You may resume deskwork and light activities within one to two weeks.
In the next two to six weeks, it’s crucial to follow your surgeon’s postoperative instructions and maintain open communication with our office. Doing so ensures that we can guide you through recovery. Attending regular follow-up visits with your surgeon will also help guarantee your continued surgical success.
